Step 3 Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Step 11 Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry that out.

Step 12 Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

This is a little funny, after looking for inspiration and finding it in a movie.  I myself work with handicap children and adults.  They have different challenges so my work is new exciting  everyday.  I have the opportunity to help and serve people who never judge others but are constantly judged, feared and misunderstood.  They teach me patience, understanding and even tolerance.  Sometimes I am awed by how little we the normal caretakers understand.  I have come up with my own phrase “Who has the handicap the person that communicates but is not understood or the Normal person that doesn’t understand thier form of communication?”  If you have not had the opportunity to be around someone with these challenges you might not understand what I mean so allow me to explain!

A child with no speech, or ability to use words will find a way to try to communicate – with gestures or sounds, cries, pushing, even repeated eye movements.  Thier gustures have a hidden meaning and we are left to try to translate them into our own “language” so we can understand them.  It’s not that they can’t communicate it is more like WE don’t speak the same language.

In one of Robert Downey JR.’s films he plays a reporter looking for a story.  He finds a homeless man playing a two stringed violin in central park.  The homeless man rambles on and on but Roberts character picks up that the man says he went to Julliard.  Upon looking up the facts the reporter finds this to be true! The reporter decides to follow this character and tell his story to the world . As he spends time with this man they become more than just reporter and homeless man they find a friendship.  In this friendship there is a protector and an artist.  They need each other, they help each other to live better lives, they open each others eye’s to not only opportunity but different perspectives.

In today’s world I hope we all have the opportunity to stumble upon our own homeless inspiration somewhere.  To listen to inspiration and take a moment of our lives to be something for someone else – even for a stranger.  We might not get a thank you or a pat on the back.  What we will receive is even bigger!  I hope we also have the opportunity to share what we have experienced and learned with many others – by sharing our new-found message to others.
